Meet Captain Nick Vella – Your Local Kayak Fishing Guide
Captain Nick Vella’s love for fishing began at an early age, growing up on the shores of Long Island where casting lines with family quickly turned into a lifelong passion. What started as weekend outings soon evolved into a deep respect for the local ecosystem and the pursuit of saltwater species that call Great South Bay home. With a down-to-earth approach and a focus on creating memorable, relaxed experiences, Captain Nick offers a fishing trip that feels more like joining a friend on the water than a typical charter service.
With over 10 years of experience fishing the waters of Long Island, Captain Nick has developed a deep knowledge of the Great South Bay’s tides, structure, and seasonal patterns. He holds all required safety certifications and is committed to creating a stress-free, enjoyable time on the water, especially for beginners and families. As a kayak fishing guide, his focus on safety, patience, and teaching sets A Fish Charters apart as one of the most approachable and beginner-friendly fishing options in the area.
Captain Nick is more than just a fishing guide—he’s a steward of the bay and an active member of the local community. Whether it’s sharing sustainable fishing practices, donating time to local events, or helping newcomers discover the thrill of their first catch, he makes a lasting impact both on and off the water. His mission is to offer a low-pressure, eco-conscious experience that connects people to the unique beauty of Long Island’s saltwater fishery.
Trips are run on a 2023 10.5-foot Hoodoo kayak, designed for stability, comfort, and performance in shallow or open water. While the kayak is built for solo fishing, small groups (up to 2–3 people with rentals) can join in with provided gear for a shared experience. Outfitted with rod holders, dry storage, and space for all the essentials, the setup is ideal for trolling, bottom fishing, spinning, or even fly fishing. Whether you’re chasing Fluke, Blues, or Blackfish, A Fish Charters provides a peaceful and personal way to explore one of Long Island’s best kayak fishing hotspots.
